Cornelius Ruddell is believed to have been born in 1833 in Decatur County Indiana. He served in Company "F" of the 16th Indiana Regiment during the Civil War.

Below is the 1850 Decatur Indiana Census. Notice directly above William & Delialah's family is that of John & Margaret (Sharp) Lyon, Margaret was William Ruddell's cousin.
